Morocco 7-day itinerary with a private driver

Guides & tips for travelling in Morocco

One week in Morocco is enough to experience the essentials — as long as you choose the right itinerary. Here are two proven 7-day tours, day by day, with real distances and our tips to enjoy without rushing.

Itinerary 1 — "Marrakech & the desert" (the most requested)

The grand classic: medina, mountains, kasbahs and a night in the dunes.

  • Day 1 — Marrakech. Airport welcome, settle into a riad. First evening at Jemaa el-Fna.
  • Day 2 — Marrakech. Medina, souks, Bahia Palace, Majorelle garden, hammam.
  • Day 3 — Marrakech → Dades (~330 km). Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, overnight in the Dades Gorges.
  • Day 4 — Dades → Merzouga (~300 km). Todra Gorges, the road of a thousand kasbahs, arrival at Erg Chebbi, sunset by camel, night in a bivouac.
  • Day 5 — Merzouga → Marrakech (long return ~560 km, or a stop in Ouarzazate). Sunrise over the dunes.
  • Day 6 — Marrakech → Essaouira (~190 km) or an Ourika/Agafay day trip.
  • Day 7 — Departure. Airport transfer, flight tracking included.

Comfort variation: break the Merzouga return with an extra night in Ouarzazate.

Itinerary 2 — "The imperial cities" (culture & heritage)

For history and medina lovers.

  • Day 1 — Casablanca. Arrival, Hassan II Mosque, drive to Rabat (overnight).
  • Day 2 — Rabat → Fes (~200 km). Rabat tour (Udayas, Hassan Tower), drive to Fes (overnight).
  • Day 3 — Fes. A day in the world's largest medina (tanneries, madrasas).
  • Day 4 — Fes → Meknes & Volubilis → back to Fes (day trip). UNESCO Roman site, imperial city.
  • Day 5 — Fes → Marrakech (~530 km, stops at Ifrane/Azrou) or via Beni Mellal.
  • Day 6 — Marrakech. Medina, gardens, hammam.
  • Day 7 — Departure. Airport transfer.

Distances & times: don't underestimate

Morocco is vast. Some useful markers:

LegDistanceTime
Marrakech → Ouarzazate~200 km~4h (Tichka pass)
Ouarzazate → Merzouga~360 km~5h
Marrakech → Essaouira~190 km~2h30
Fes → Marrakech~530 km~7–8h
Casablanca → Fes~290 km~3h

👉 Hence the value of a driver: you turn these long roads into part of the journey, with no driving fatigue.

Tips for a great week

  • Don't overload — 7 days = 2 bases max (e.g. Marrakech + desert), or you'll spend your time on the road.
  • Choose by taste — adventure/desert (itinerary 1) or culture/medinas (itinerary 2).
  • Book key nights (desert bivouac, riads) ahead in high season.
  • Keep free time — a medina is savoured, not ticked off.

FAQ

Is 7 days enough for Morocco?
Yes for a great overview (one or two regions). To combine imperial cities AND desert AND coast, plan 10–12 days.
Driver or car rental?
For these long distances and mountain roads, a private driver is more restful, safer, and often more efficient (no time lost).
Can the itinerary be customised?
Entirely: pace, stops, level of accommodation. That's the principle of our tailor-made tours.
How much is a 7-day tour with a driver?
The price depends on the itinerary, vehicle and season; it's confirmed in advance, all-inclusive. Get your quote. See also the cost guide.
