The best time to visit Morocco
Guides & tips for travelling in Morocco
Morocco is a year-round destination — but the "best" time depends on where you're going. Here's the climate by region and season, so you can plan right.
In short
- Spring (Mar-May) and autumn (Sep-Nov) = the best periods almost everywhere: mild, bright, ideal for Marrakech, the Atlas, the desert and the imperial cities.
- Summer (Jun-Aug): very hot inland (Marrakech, Fes, desert); perfect on the coast (Essaouira, Agadir — cooling trade winds).
- Winter (Dec-Feb): mild by day in Marrakech/Agadir (winter sun), cold at night, snow on the Atlas (skiing at Oukaimeden), chilly desert nights.
By region
- Marrakech & imperial cities: spring/autumn ideal; hot summer (early starts); mild winter days.
- Desert (Merzouga/Agafay): Oct-Apr (avoid summer heat); chilly winter nights (bivouac with blankets).
- Atlas: spring (snowy peaks + flowering valleys), cool summer at altitude, winter = skiing.
- Coast (Essaouira, Agadir): pleasant year-round, ideal in summer when inland bakes.
By trip type
- Desert + cities: Oct-Nov or Mar-Apr (the perfect combo).
- Beach/relax: summer on the coast, or "winter sun" in Agadir.
- Atlas hiking: Apr-Jun and Sep-Oct.
- Budget/fewer crowds: winter (outside holidays), with lovely surprises.
Note
- Ramadan: a shifted rhythm (see our Ramadan guide).
- High season (Easter, summer, year-end): book early.
