The great dunes of the Erg Chebbi at Merzouga — the postcard Sahara — are a 2 to 3 day journey from Marrakech. The itinerary (tailor-made, 2 or 3 days)
Day 1 — Marrakech → Dades: the Tichka pass, the UNESCO ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, then the Dades Gorges (overnight).
Day 2 — Dades → Merzouga: the Todra Gorges, the road of a thousand kasbahs, arrival at the Erg Chebbi, sunset by camel and a night in a desert bivouac under the stars.
Day 3 — Merzouga → Marrakech: sunrise over the dunes, return (or a gentler version with a stop in Ouarzazate).
2-day version possible (fast pace); 3 days recommended to truly savour it.
